So you're looking for a voiceover specialist to produce your new commercial or phone system prompts...how do you find the voice that's "right for the job?" There's a few factors that should go into your decision:
1. Voice quality. What kind of sound are you looking for? This question can be answered best by asking yourself what kind of image you are trying to convey for your business. There are so many different tones, delivery styles and speaking patterns and choosing the wrong image voice can cost you customers believe it not. For example, a womens clothing shop most likely wouldn't want the deep, ballsy rock sounding voice guy that sounds like he's promoting the monster truck show. This type of business would look for a more natural sounding, friendly voice that isn't going to turn off potential customers on hold.
2. Flexibility. If your business is going to require frequent updates and changes to your ads, narration or phone system then you are going to want to look for a voiceover talent that isn't too busy to turn your jobs around in a reasonably quick fashion. There's nothing worse than waiting two days for a :30 script to be voiced. Generally, most talent can turn projects around in 24 hours or less.
3. Cost. I don't need to tell you this, but don't base your decision solely on cost. I understand you're on a budget but shop around and audition several voice talent before making a final decision. You'll find that rates vary quite a bit based on the experience and background of the talent. Is your project a one-time job or something that is ongoing? These types of questions should help you decide on the perfect voice too as many don't offer just one-time projects and will require you to sign at least a one year contract.
So as you begin the search for an image voice for your business, consider these factors. Check out my website Scott Michaels Media to see if what I have to offer meets your needs. If so, I'd love to help grow your business.
